Make an inspiring move
See it? Over there, floating in the air just … out … of … your … reach. In your mind’s eye, you stretch out your fingers … so close. Maybe if you get to your feet! Yes, that will do it! The simple act of standing will bridge the distance, allowing your brain to latch onto the elusive idea floating just outside its grasp.
Sound far-fetched? Not really. In his book Intuition@Work, self-described “corporate shaman” James Wanless notes that the simple act of standing pumps 20 percent more oxygen to your brain. So in those moments when the answer to your dilemma seems near yet too far, suddenly taking to your feet may be the mental equivalent of shifting to high gear. And this new burst of energy may be exactly the thing to inspire you to find your elusive solution.
